The 2024 edition of the Carlsbad 5000 featured a new out and back course along the Coast Highway. Both the 2023 men’s and women’s elite champions returned to defend their titles.
In the men’s race, Matt Baxter, representing NAZ Elite, took the early lead, with defending champ Edwin Kurgat shadowing Baxter. At the turnaround, Kurgat put in a surge and cruised to victory.
On the women’s side, defending champion Laura Galvan set the early pace, and sailed to the finish line to claim a repeat victory.
