Top of Utah Marathon

As a desert dweller, I rarely have an opportunity to see snow. So, one could imagine my surprise when I looked out the hotel window in Logan, Utah, and saw snow flurries on the first day of Autumn 2006.

Fortunately, the storm cleared out overnight, and the 8th Annual NordicTrack Top of Utah Marathon took place under cool and sunny conditions. Utah became state # 15 on my 50 state marathon tour… State # 16 will have to wait until next year; my plans for the rest of 2006 primarily focus on cross country and shorter road races…

San Diego Road Trip

Year after year, hundreds of Arizona runners make the trek to San Diego for the America’s Finest City Half Marathon. As training through the summer in the Valley becomes longer and hotter, spending a weekend near the beach in late August seems like a perfect end-of-summer ritual.

The gallery includes images from Sea World, the U.S.S. Midway, and the Arizona desert at dusk, outside of Gila Bend.

Bondurant School of High Performance Driving

Attending the four-day Bondurant Grand Prix Road Racing course both fulfilled a lifelong dream and let me know how much more I need to learn about driving an automobile fast for competition. We spent the first three days of the class driving the Corvette C5, and the fourth day driving a Formula Ford. I definitely need to work on my heel-toe downshifting. The class was everything I expected, and more… I had all four tires in the dirt on a couple occasions, but managed to avoid hitting anything…

My next opportunity to drive a Formula Ford will be during “Lap the Oval” day at Phoenix International Raceway, in November. It is a non-competitive event, but should be a lot of fun; I’ve attended races at PIR since grade school, and have always wanted to drive on that track…

4th of July 2006

What better way is there to watch 4th of July fireworks in Phoenix than from the roof of a high rise in the Camelback Corridor? Friends and teammates were treated to a 360 degree view of the city, and close proximity to a couple downtown Phoenix fireworks shows…

2006 AT&T USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships — Sunday

It seems somewhat fitting that the 2006 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships would end as it began, with a rain delay. The dreary conditions did not slow down the competitors. After the meet resumed, several world leading times fell in rapid succession.
